LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics announced today a collaboration with specialty materials provider Eastman to develop sustainable packaging solutions for LVMH’s family of brands, based on Eastman’s molecular recycling technologies.

A division of leading luxury company LVMH, LVMH Perfumes & Cosmetics’ brands include Parfums Christian Dior, Parfums Givenchy, Guerlain, Benefit Cosmetics, Fresh and Make Up For Ever. According to the company, the new initiative aligns with LVMH Group’s sustainability commitments, which include eliminating fossil-based virgin plastic in packaging by 2026, with an interim 2023 goal to strengthen sustainable materials efforts.

Hélène Valade, LVMH Environmental Development Director, said:

“Eastman’s innovative molecular recycling technologies are playing a crucial role in helping LVMH achieve our sustainability targets. We are at the very beginning of our journey to meet our targets. With our first deadline in 2023, we need solutions that are available now and at a global scale, ensuring our customers experience these benefits immediately.”

Eastman’s recently introduced line of molecularly recycled technologies break down waste into its molecular building blocks so it can be reused, creating resins that are chemically indistinguishable from their legacy counterparts. The technologies divert waste plastic from landfills, give waste plastic new life, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions relative to traditional production.

According to LVMH, the collaboration will kick off with Eastman’s Cristal Renew copolyester, with 30% certified recycled content, being introduced on Dior Addict Lip Maximizer packaging this summer, and the company anticipates rolling out more sustainable packaging solutions across its brands over the next several months.
