Leading building materials company Holcim announced today the launch of ECOPlanet, a new range of green cement delivering at least 30% lower carbon footprint compared to ordinary cement, with equivalent or superior performance.
Building materials companies are coming increasingly in focus in the fight against climate change, due to the carbon intensity of their primary products. Cement production accounts for approximately 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions, with over 900 kg of CO2 emissions generated for every 1000 kg of material produced.
According to Holcim, some of the factors contributing to the low carbon profile of ECOPlanet include the use of innovative raw materials, such as recycled construction and demolition waste, along with production utilizing alternative fuels. enhancing its lower carbon footprint further. The new product has a range of applications, from home building to complex infrastructure.

The new launch adds to Holcim’s lineup of green construction materials solutions, including last year’s launch of ECOPact, a range of green concrete.
ECOPlanet is available in Germany, Romania, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, France, and Italy, and Holcim is planning distribution to 15 countries this year, and is expecting to double its market presence by the end of 2022.
