Toy, game and entertainment company Hasbro announced today that it has become a signatory of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with commitments to set SBTi-validated 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction targets aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
Chris Cocks, incoming CEO of Hasbro, said:
“As a global leader in play and entertainment for fans of all ages, Hasbro understands the critical importance of operating sustainably to protect our planet for future generations. Committing to SBTs is another step for Hasbro to make a positive difference for our planet and fans around the world. Our hope is others across the industry join us in this effort.”

The organization recently launched its Net Zero Standard, setting stringent criteria which it will use to assess and certify corporate commitments to achieve net zero emissions. Last year, SBTi tightened its criteria for approved climate targets, announcing that it will soon only accept targets aligned with its 1.5°C warming ambition, as required to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
Hasbro said that it will set its 2030 and 2050 emissions reduction targets this year, adding to the company’s current sustainability initiatives, which include plans to convert its entire packaging line to plastic-free designs by the end of 2022, and its Hasbro Toy Recycling program, which designates recycled materials from its toys and games for use in play spaces like playgrounds, sports courts and park benches.
Kathrin Belliveau, Chief Purpose Officer, Hasbro, said:
“At Hasbro, we are committed to making the world a better place for future generations, which includes taking important action to reduce our footprint across our entire supply and value chain. We are proud to be setting SBTs this year under the new framework and honored to join the SBTi community and be part of the collaborative effort on the path to net zero.”
