Automotive manufacturer Renault Group announced a series of new strategic partnerships with energy providers aimed at accelerating the decarbonization of its plants in France, including the largest to-date green electricity supply agreement in the country with Voltalia, as well as projects with ENGIE and Dalkia.

The company said that the partnerships mark a “new step” in its global Climate Plan, making it possible to achieve net zero carbon for the plants of the ElectriCity cluster – consisting of Renault’s Douai, Maubeuge, and Ruitz manufacturing plants in northern France – in 2025, Europe in 2030 and worldwide in 2050.

Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, said:

“Today we are taking a strategic step towards achieving carbon neutrality in our plants.”

Renault’s agreement with Voltalia will cover up to 50% of the electricity consumption of its production activities in France. Voltalia will install photovoltaic panels on for a capacity of 100MW from 2025, and increase to 350MW by 2027.

Under the agreement with ENGIE, the companies will develop a first-of-its-kind deep geothermal project in Europe, replacing 70% of the gas needed for its Douai plant by 2025. Finally, the Group’s new 15-year partnership with Dalkia to install a biomass boiler will replace 65% of the gas consumption at its Maubeuge plant.
