Decarbonization-focused consultancy and carbon project developer and solutions provider South Pole announced today the appointment of Daniel Klier as its new Chief Executive Officer. Klier will assume the role beginning in May 2024, taking over from interim CEO John Davis.

Klier joins South Pole from sustainability data and technology platform ESG Book, where he currently serves as CEO. Prior to joining ESG Book, Klier served as Global Head of Sustainable Finance at HSBC, and held several senior sustainable finance industry positions, including as chair of the Bank of England Climate Risk working group, the Institute of International Finance Sustainable Finance working group, and the UK Finance Sustainability Committee, and he serves on the Boards of the global sustainability reporting standard GRI and the international organization Sustainable Energy for All. Klier was also a Partner at McKinsey, supporting companies to enhance their organizational performance and international growth.

In his new role, Klier will be responsible for further developing and institutionalizing South Pole’s renewed focus on exceeding industry risk, integrity and compliance standards and lead its next phase of growth.
