Berlin-based startup carbmee announced that it has successfully completed a €20 million (USD $21 million) funding round, with proceeds aimed at expanding the reach of its carbon management platform, and enhancing its software and service offerings.
Founded in 2021, carbmee’s AI-powered solutions help organizations accurately manage, reduce and report their carbon output, a process increasingly required to meet new regulations and reporting requirements. The funds raised will be invested in further developing carbmee’s EnvironmentalEnvironmental criteria consider how a company performs as a steward of nature. Intelligence System (EIS) platform, which, among other things, the company says, can collect granular data on company activities required for the life-cycle assessment (LCA) component of EU carbon regulations.
Currently, carbmee is working with numerous international customers, including Lufthansa Technik, Maersk,Kärcher, Hilti, Miele, Coca-Cola, Schaeffler, and Anglo American.
CEO and co-founder Christian Heinrich said that the funding round is “a validation of the innovative work we’ve done so far, but it’s also a launching point for what comes next. It’s a clear confirmation that we made the right decisions already 4 years ago anticipating the importance of scope 3 emissions in manufacturing industries. With over 80% of emissions being rooted in the supply chain, we have built a platform that not only meets the evolving needs of complex industry enterprises but also plays a critical role in the global shift toward sustainability.”
Co-founder Robin Spickers added:
“We address one of the biggest challenges faced by the manufacturing industry. Currently, teams in large organizations work in data silos – procurement, R&D, finance, production – and rely on manual Excel spreadsheets to calculate carbon footprints, causing data inaccuracy and ineffective processes.”
The round was led by climate fintech investor CommerzVentures, and included participation from Fly Ventures, alongside several angel investors.
Paul Morgenthaler, Managing Partner at CommerzVentures, said that the carbmee team is “at the forefront of a vital industrial step-change as businesses around the world demand the knowledge and support to manage their carbon emissions. Their powerful software breaks down the complexity of decarbonizing global supply chains, solving a key problem for industries. We share in the team’s exceptional ambition for the future and look forward to helping them deliver on this journey.”
