Nonprofit climatetech startup incubator Greentown Labs announced today the appointment of Georgina Campbell Flatter as its incoming Chief Executive Officer.

Founded in 2011 out of the MIT ecosystem, Greentown Labs aims to accelerate climatetech innovation and commercialization by empowering entrepreneurs and enabling collaboration, bringing together founders, corporates, investors and policymakers. The organization opened a second location in Texas, Greentown Houston, in 2021, with the intention of accelerating the energy transition. According to Greentown, the nonprofit has grown to be the largest climatetech startup incubator in North America, reaching nearly 600 member companies.

Flatter joins Greentown after co-founding and leading weather and climate innovation-focused nonprofit TomorrowNow.org. Prior to joining TomorrowNow.org, she spent a decade at MIT, including as a senior lecturer, and leading global technology and social impact initiatives.

Bobby Tudor, Greentown Labs Board Chair and Chairman of The Houston Energy Transition Initiative, said:

“It’s rare to find an individual who has impressive climate and energy expertise along with nonprofit and entrepreneurial leadership—we’re fortunate Georgie brings all of this and more to Greentown Labs. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted to welcome Georgie as our next CEO and I am eager to see all that Greentown will accomplish under her leadership. Since Greentown’s expansion to Houston in 2021, we’ve seen the power of its role in our ecosystem and we’re proud to have Georgie leading Greentown’s next chapter.”

Flatter will take over the CEO position from Interim CEO Kevin Dutt, who took on the role after Kevin Knobloch stepped down as CEO in mid-2024. Knobloch had been with Greentown since September 2023, after longtime CEO Emily Reichert stepped down in late 2022.

Flatter said:

“We are at a transformational moment in the energy transition, with an unprecedented opportunity to drive solutions in energy production, sustainability, and climate resilience. Greentown Labs is, and has always been, a home for entrepreneurs and a powerhouse of collaboration and innovation. In this next chapter, I’m excited to build on our entrepreneurial roots and the strength of our ever-growing communities in Boston and Houston. Together, we will unite entrepreneurs, partners, and resources to tackle frontier challenges and scale breakthrough technologies.”
