Nature-based solutions platform hummingbirds announced that it has raised €50 million (USD$59 million) in a Series A financing round, with proceeds aimed at scaling its conservation and ecosystem restoration-focused carbon projects.

Founded by travel firm Voyage Privé in 2022, French-based hummingbirds develops projects globally designed to remove carbon emissions and protect biodiversity through community-driven conservation, ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management. The company provides financing and technical assistance to nature-based solutions project holders working towards high-integrity carbon projects, with a focus on the early stages of carbon projects, supporting feasibility studies and pilots.

To date, hummingbirds said that it has developed more than 20 projects, which the company said will deliver the sequestration or reduction of more than 45 million tons of CO2e, the sustainable management of more than 700,000 hectares, enhance the livelihoods for over 400,000 people, and protect habitats for more than 180 IUCN-listed threatened species.

Anaïs Bach, Chief Executive Officer of hummingbirds, said:

“hummingbirds’ inception was born from a remarkable convergence of a critical market gap, execution expertise, and entrepreneurial visionaries – fortified by essential funding. It’s truly extraordinary and humbling to witness how far we’ve come, thanks to a passionate team without whom none of this would have been possible.”

The financing was provided by Swedfund, Proparco and British International Investment, which each committed €15 million, alongside €5 million in seed capital from hummingbirds.
