Renewable energy solutions provider Enfinity Global announced that it has begun commercial operations at a new 33.8 MW solar PV power plant in Italy, marking the delivery of the first project under a series of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with Microsoft.

Enfinity Global was founded in 2019 and owns a 39.3 GW portfolio of renewable energy generation and storage projects which spans operational assets, projects under construction and those in development. It has a further 37 GW under negotiation across the US. The company has contracted 808 MW of solar PPAs in Italy over the past two years with corporate and industrial customers.

The Italian solar plant is the first to reach commercial operation under a wider agreement covering up to 366 MW of renewable capacity. Additional projects included in the collaboration are already under construction across Italy.

The new development represents the start of a broader collaboration between the two companies aimed at supplying renewable energy to support Microsoft’s sustainability objectives.

In 2021, Microsoft launched a 100/100/0 clean energy goal, with the company targeting having 100% of its electricity consumption, 100% of the time, matched by purchases from zero-carbon energy sources by 2030.

Carlos Domenech, Enfinity Global’s CEO, said:

“We are delighted to provide solar energy electricity to a global technology leader like Microsoft. Our mission is to provide our global and local customers with reliable, value-added renewable energy solutions while we serve as a responsible member of the communities where we operate our power plants.”

As part of the initiative, Enfinity and Microsoft plan to invest in and create jobs in communities where the power plants are being built, including Lazio, Emilia-Romagna and Basilicata.
