Germany-based testing, certification, auditing, and advisory services provider TÜV SÜD announced today the acquisition of climate impact verification platform SustainCERT, in a move aimed at expanding its capabilities in digital carbon verification and strengthening its position in global carbon markets.
Founded in 2018 by the Gold Standard Foundation as its official certification body, Luxembourg-based SustainCERT now operated as an independent Validation and Verification Body for climate impact, specializing in carbon markets, digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (dMRV) and Scope 3 decarbonization projects.
As part of its services, SustainCERT audits climate projects and impacts in carbon markets and value chains to verify the GHG reductions and removals and allow companies to credibly claim the impact of their interventions. The company also provides Value Chain Solutions to enable companies in the Apparel, Food, and Agriculture sectors to credibly report on their decarbonization efforts and manage the impact of their value chain interventions, and serves as an accredited Validation and Verification Body for carbon markets.
According to TÜV SÜD, the acquisition comes as carbon markets are expanding rapidly, as governments and businesses seek to meet decarbonization targets through regulated and voluntary mechanisms, while at the same time, concerns over transparency and the credibility of carbon credits have increased, driving demand for robust and independent verification.

TÜV SÜD added that the transaction will strengthen its position in carbon markets, with the combination adding benefits for its customers, including faster and more predictable verification processes, greater transparency and traceability throughout the entire project lifecycle through integrated dMRV systems, and greater assurance of data quality and reduced risks through standardized, auditable verification processes.
