Early-stage venture capital investor Redstone announced that it has raised €25 million (USD$29 million) at the first close of launch its ocean-focused blue economy fund, Redstone Blue.

Launched in 2025, Redstone’s blue economy fund invests in early stage companies, from pre-seed through Series A, transforming ocean industries through innovation that supports more sustainable growth across maritime sectors. The strategy targets technology ventures across four areas, including sustainable maritime and port systems, ocean infrastructure and clean energy, marine intelligence, and blue biotechnology and water technology. The firm added that it backs founders building for market-based returns while modernizing legacy industries and accelerating the transition to a sustainable blue economy.

The fund is co-lead by Klas Johansen and Tuomo Veivo, who both joined Redstone last year, alongside Kaj Hagros, Managing Partner, Nordics at Redstone.

The funding round included participation from angel investors, family offices, foundations, institutions and corporations related to the maritime industry, including Turun kaupunki – Åbo stad – City of Turku, Meriaura Invest, Aboa Advest, LähiTapiola, Kelonia, Rausanne, Adamo Capital – Founders Family Office, Henrik Paasikivi, Magnus Kihlgren and ARGOng Investment AG among others.

Redstone said:

“Oceans cover more than 70% of the earth’s surface, produce roughly half the planet’s oxygen, and hold over 95% of the earth’s biosphere. As Sir David Attenborough put it: “If we save the sea, we save our world.” Oceans are critical to climate stability and underpin the supply of protein, medicine, energy, trade, logistics and security globally.”
