
Cloud infrastructure and software provider Oracle announced a series of investments in Texas-based wind energy generation projects anticipated to deliver more than 1.7 GW of electricity, advancing the company’s goal to match 100% of the electricity use at its AI data centers with carbon-free energy.
The company said that the investments cover ten projects in Texas with suppliers including Clearway Energy, ENGIE, RWE, and Scout Clean Energy, and will supply electricity to the ERCOT grid, which powers the company’s AI data center in Abilene, Texas.
Based on expected annual generation and eGrid emissions factors, the renewable electricity generated by the projects represents an estimated avoided-emissions equivalent of 1.8 million metric tons of CO₂ annually, while generating enough electricity each year to power the equivalent of over 525,000 U.S. homes.
The company said that the projects align with Oracle’s 2035 target of achieving 100% percent carbon-free electricity for its Custom AI data centers, which include large, dedicated AI clusters built for individual customers.
