Sustainable packaging solutions provider Ball Corporation announced today a broad set of new sustainability targets, including initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero by 2050 and transitioning to renewable electricity by 2030. The company also reported a commitment to drive toward a circular economy for aluminum beverage packaging.
Along with the new goals, Ball launched “Toward a Perfect Circle,” the company’s industry vision to significantly increase recycle rates for aluminum beverage packaging, which would result in significant environmentalEnvironmental criteria consider how a company performs as a steward of nature. sustainability benefits. The strategy outlines a pathway for industry participants – including beverage brands, retailers, and aluminum beverage packaging manufacturers and their suppliers – to collaborate to push the recycling rate for aluminum cans, bottles and cups beyond 90%, from below 70% today, and to increase the global average recycled content rate to as much as 85%.
The company stated that it will also advocate for investment in infrastructure and technology to support a more effective and efficient recycling system in the regions where it operates.
