The LA Clippers announced today a multi-year partnership with Aspiration Partners on the construction of the Intuit Dome, the first climate positive arena, set to house the team beginning in the 2024-2025 NBA season.
The deal, reported by CNBC to be in excess of $300 million, will see Aspiration become the first Founding Partner of the dome. Aspiration will receive physical and digital signage elements with the deal, and will become the presenting partner of the Clipper Nation MVP Program targeting season ticket holders.
The agreement will also allow the Clippers to engage Aspiration’s Sustainable Impact Services, which enable companies to integrate the climate action into their daily customer experience. Additionally, Aspiration and the Clippers will launch a Planet Protection Fund providing fans with the opportunity to offset their own carbon impact when purchasing tickets.
Joe Sanberg, Co-founder of Aspiration, said:
“Today, the Clippers are raising the bar for every major sports franchise in the world. By committing to a sustainable future, this team is proving that its massive cultural influence can extend to harnessing meaningful and ongoing action against the climate crisis by embedding Aspiration’s sustainability services throughout the fan experience. As a Clippers fan, I am proud to be partnering with them to define a new era of climate action in major league sports — and I hope that the rest of the NBA follows their example.”
Earlier this month, the Clippers announced a long-term partnership with Intuit, reportedly worth $500 million, granting naming rights for the new arena. The new Inglewood, California venue will operate 100% carbon-free, built with 100% embodied carbon concrete, and featuring solar-powered batteries with enough on-site energy storage to power a basketball game or concert. Additionally, the arena will feature a comprehensive waste reduction program to eradicate landfill waste onsite and extensive programs to improve regional air quality.
Clippers Chairman Steve Ballmer said:
“There is a responsibility associated with building the best arena in the world. Aspiration becoming our first Founding Partner supports the stake we are planting in the ground to make Intuit Dome the most sustainable arena in the world.”
