Technology giant HP announced today the acquisition of plastic-free packaging development company Choose Packaging. Choose is the inventor of the world’s only commercially available zero-plastic paper bottle.
Founded in 2018, Choose offers an alternative to plastic bottles, which utilizes its patented paper bottle technology – a paper casing lined with a plant-based waterproof PET-free liner. The company’s bottles don’t require fossil fuel-derived ingredients and are made with naturally occurring, sustainably sourced, biodegradable, and compostable materials.
HP stated that the transaction supports its “strategy to disrupt strategic vertical markets and drive environmentalEnvironmental criteria consider how a company performs as a steward of nature. sustainability.” In its bid to transform the fiber-based sustainable packaging market, estimated at $10 billion, HP has introduced a 3D printing-enabled Molded Fiber Tooling Solution, providing a fast and affordable solution to bring customizable, fiber-based products to market. HP will integrate Choose into its Personalization & 3D Printing business.

According to HP, there are more than 150 million tons of single-use plastics produced each year and the company intends to disrupt this market with fiber-based, 100% plastic-free packaging.
