Automotive technology company Lear Corporation announced a new 2030 commitment to reach 100% renewable energy for electric power consumed at its global sites.

With its new commitment, Lear announced that it is joining RE100, an initiative led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP, to bring together the world’s most influential companies committed to 100% renewable electricity. RE100 members commit to sourcing 100% of the electricity used across their global operations with electricity from renewable sources.

Sam Kimmins, Director of Energy at Climate Group, said:

“Lear’s commitment to 100% renewable electricity globally by 2030 demonstrates its leadership in energy transition. Together, our RE100 members represent a powerful force for positive change, and we encourage all large-scale businesses to join us.”

Lear has already reached 100% renewable electricity in its German, Poland and UK operations, and the company operates six on-site solar installations in Europe, South America, and Asia, with a seventh installation planned to be announced later this year. For its remaining global sites, Lear plans to use a combination of methods to generate renewable power, depending on location, legislation and government regulation.
