Global cruise vacation company Royal Caribbean Group announced today the appointment of Silvia Garrigo as Senior Vice President and Chief ESG Officer. In her new role, Garrigo will be responsible for leading the company’s ESG framework, with a focus on building strategic partnerships with stakeholders.

Garrigo will also lead the integration of environmental and social issues into the Royal Caribbean’s governance and enterprise risk management.

Prior to joining Royal Caribbean Group, Garrigo held various positions related to legal and sustainability counseling at global companies, including energy corporation Chevron, international law firm Morrison & Foerster, and Investment Management company Cuba Strategies Inc. Most recently, she served as a VP of Corporate Responsibility and Social Investment at telecommunications and media company Millicom, with responsibility for developing and executing the company’s ESG, and social investment strategy.

According to the company, Garrigo is now the first senior leader in the cruise industry dedicated specifically to ESG efforts.
