Energy giant Shell and T-Systems International GmbH, Deutsche Telekom’s corporate customers arm announced today an agreement for collaboration on technologies to meet each company’s net zero goals, including renewable energy and electric vehicle charging solutions.
Both companies have recently unveiled climate initiatives plans for their businesses, including an announcement by Deutsche Telekom to accelerate its plans to reach net zero emissions by 2040, including in its supply chain. Shell is targeting net-zero across its Scope 1,2 and 3 emissions by 2050, and recently became the first energy major to receive shareholder approval for its climate transition strategy.
Under the terms of the new agreement, Shell and T-Systems will pursue the net-zero goals of both companies, their supply chains and customers, and collaborate on innovations and services to accelerate Shell’s digital transformation. Shell will act as a supplier of renewable energy to T-Systems sister company, T-Mobile US, while Deutche Telekom engineers will install more than 10,000 EV chargers in Germany over the next three years.

This newly signed MOU allows Shell and Deutsche Telekom to leverage their long-term collaboration, teaming up in new areas that will benefit society.”
The companies will also work together to identify opportunities to co-invest and participate in new business models focused on the decarbonisation of society.Deutsche Telekom and Shell are exploring the viability of smart city solutions, aimed at helping cities decarbonize, including solutions for EV charging through a mobile app and smart lighting projects.
