Global payments solutions company American Express announced today a series of climate-focused initiatives and offerings, including plans to launch new solutions enabling corporate clients to measure, manage and offset the carbon footprint of their spending.

Jennifer Skyler, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at American Express, said:

“We’re excited to kick off Earth Month by introducing our new suite of offerings that will enable our corporate clients to make carbon conscious decisions and support community organizations doing important work to promote a low-carbon future.”

American Express said that it aims to offer new digital products and services available later this year to help customers understand their carbon footprint. The company is currently developing an expanded carbon footprint dashboard to enable corporate clients track estimated carbon emissions associated with certain categories of their employees’ spend, such as air travel, ground transportation, hotel stays, restaurants and retail. Additionally, Amex is developing a carbon offset referral suite, enabling U.S. corporate clients to connect with carbon offset providers offering investments in areas including large-scale carbon removal, reduction and avoidance projects.

Other initiatives announced by the company include the launch of “Shop with Purpose” Amex Offers, providing rewards for eligible purchases with Certified B Corp Companies during Earth Month, expanding the availability of recycled plastic cards, and providing over $2 million in grants to American Forests, National Park Foundation, and Earthwatch Institute.

Skyler added:

“These new initiatives build on the work we have done to reduce our own carbon footprint by engaging our colleagues, customers and community partners in initiatives that address the climate crisis.”
