Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (OTPP), one of Canada’s largest investors, with over $240 billion in assets under management, announced today the appointment of Anna Murray as Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Sustainable Investing.

Murray joins OTPP from Sun Life Capital (SLC), where she has been serving as Global Head of ESG, responsible for the integration of ESG risk management and value creation practices into investment decisions and management across the firm’s investment platform. She also served as Global Head of ESG at Sun Life’s real estate investment management advisor, BentallGreenOak.

As part of the Total Fund Management, Investment Division, Murray will work closely with senior leaders and investment teams across the organization to lead Ontario Teachers’ plan to create “a lasting, positive impact while creating value for members”.

In her new role, Murray will be responsible for executing on the fund’s climate strategy and net-zero targets, and advancing its approach to impact investing as well as for overseeing corporate governance activities, including proxy voting and public company engagements. Murray will also oversee the continued integration of ESG in OTPP’s investment process. 

OTPP has committed to reach net zero from investment activities by 2050, and recently unveiled interim targets to reduce portfolio emissions by 45% by 2025, and by 67% by 2030, on a 2019 basis.
