Global professional services firm EY announced today the appointment of Michelle Davies to the newly created role of Global Sustainability Legal Services Leader.

In her new role, Davies will oversee a team of legal professionals across 95 countries, providing the firm’s clients with a broad range of legal services to help address their sustainability-related priorities and challenges.

Davies joined EY UK last year as a Partner in its Law business, focused on decarbonization, sustainability and ESG. Prior to joining EY, she worked for over 20 years at global law firm Eversheds Sutherland, most recently serving as Partner and International Head of Clean Energy and Sustainability, where she founded the firm’s Clean Energy & Sustainability Group and ESG practice.

Davies said:

“Sustainability is one of the defining challenges of our time. In simple terms, every organization needs to change what it does, or how it does it, to remain valuable in the transitioning global economy… In this global role, I will be laser-focused on helping businesses around the world understand and respond to the risks and the opportunities on all these fronts. We want to help ensure that businesses can not only tackle the immediate challenges but are equipped to optimize future value.”

The appointment forms part of a series of moves by EY to boost its own ESG capabilities and expertise. As part of a set of sustainability goals announced in 2021, EY pledged to invest in services and solutions that help its clients profitably decarbonize their businesses and provide solutions to other sustainability challenges and opportunities. 

In a statement announcing the appointment, EY said that the new role “marks significant expansion of EY Law services for businesses on sustainability issues.”
