Buildings efficiency, controls, and automation company Johnson Controls announced today the launch of OpenBlue Net Zero Advisor, a new data tool aimed at providing building owners and managers with a single dashboard to assess carbon footprints, set targets, and manage and track emissions.
According to Johnson Controls, the launch of the new tool comes as regulators are calling on building owners to provide reliable emissions reporting as they seek proof of progress towards net zero goals, while disparate data sources, varying local conditions and numerous reporting frameworks create challenges to collect, analyze and use the data.
Vijay Sankaran, Chief Technology Officer at Johnson Controls, said:
“Given the urgency of climate action, and the fact that buildings contribute nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, businesses across the globe will be seeking to reduce and report on emissions for buildings they own or occupy.”
According to Johnson Controls, the new solution addresses these issues with an “all-in-one” tool encompassing carbon footprint assessment, target setting, emissions management, and tracking, aggregating data across global building portfolios, providing insights to reduce building emissions, and assisting in reporting. The tool calculates Scope 1 and 2 emissions utilizing automatically extracted data from utility bills, on-site renewable energy sources, and local emissions factors, and calculates net emissions for each building site, factoring in credits and carbon offsets.
The new product follows the launch in 2021 by the company of its OpenBlue smart buildings technology and services, and its sustainable buildings-focused OpenBlue Net Zero Buildings as a Service.
