Leading construction and mining equipment, engine, turbine and locomotive manufacturer Caterpillar announced today the appointment of George Moubayed as Chief Sustainability and Strategy Officer.

Moubayed has been with Caterpillar for over 25 years, joining the company in 1997 as a marketing representative. Most recently, he has been serving as Senior Vice President, responsible for the Enterprise Strategy Division, overseeing the execution of Caterpillar’s strategy for long-term profitable growth. He has also held positions at the company including Vice President and General Manager for load and haul products, as well as Vice President of Aftermarket Solutions in Caterpillar’s Resource Industries unit.

Moubayed will assume his new role at the beginning of 2024, upon the retirement of Caterpillar’s Chief Sustainability Officer Lou Balmer-Millar, who was appointed to the position last year. Caterpillar established the Chief Sustainability Officer role in 2021, with the appointment of Julie Lagacy as the first to hold the role. Lagacy retired in February 2023.

In his role as Chief Sustainability Officer, Moubayed will report directly to Chairman and CEO Jim Umpleby.

Umpleby said:

“George has a breadth of enterprise perspective and experience in executing our strategy for long-term profitable growth. Sustainability is an integral part of this strategy as we help our customers achieve their climate-related objectives and build a better, more sustainable world.”
