Market data and solutions provider S&P Global announced the appointment of Lauren Smart as Head of S&P Global Sustainable1, leading the company’s sustainability-focused business unit.

Smart joined S&P Global through the company’s 2016 acquisition of carbon and environmental data and risk analysis company Trucost, which she joined as a startup. She was chosen as part of the start up team for Sustainable1 in 2020, and has been serving at the sustainability-focused unit as Chief Commercial & Market Engagement Officer.

S&P Global launched Sustainable1 in 2021, creating an integrated group for the company’s full suite of sustainability offerings, including its benchmarking, analytics, evaluations, and indices products and solutions. The new appointment follows the integration by S&P Global of Sustainable1 within its S&P Global Commodity Insights division, combining the company’s energy transition and sustainability assets.

In a social media post announcing the appointment, Smart said:

“As the sustainability market grows and evolves, so does the sophistication of our clients’ needs. Alongside our longstanding work on climate, nature, & sustainability, the newly integrated business will support clients end to end throughout their sustainability journey; from risk management and reporting to industrial decarbonization and identifying the opportunities to finance a more sustainable future. This organization brings powerful original content on clean energy technology, carbon markets, transition commodities, sustainable agriculture, hydrogen, biofuels, energy outlooks & so much more.”
