Macquarie Asset Management-owned pan-Asian renewable energy platform Blueleaf Energy announced today that it has signed two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Microsoft for new solar projects in Japan

Under the new agreements, coordinated by Macquarie’s Energy Markets and Customer Solutions team, Microsoft will serve as the sole offtaker of electricity generated by the projects.

The deal marks the continuation of a collaboration between Macquarie and Microsoft, with agreements in place representing a combined 540 MW of wind and solar capacity across the UK, Spain and India.

Raghuram Natarajan, CEO of Blueleaf Energy, said:

“Our collaboration with Microsoft is more than a commercial agreement; it is a shared blueprint for a decarbonised future. By bridging the energy landscapes of Japan and India, we are setting a new benchmark for how regional expertise and collaboration can accelerate the delivery of much-needed new generation capacity.”

The new agreements follow an announcement by Microsoft earlier this year of plans to invest $10 billion in Japan from 2026 through 2029.

Ed Northam, Global Head of MAM Green Investments, said:

“We are pleased to work with Microsoft again, supporting its business goals through tailored clean energy solutions that help meet growing global demand for cost-efficient, low-carbon power that can be delivered quickly.”
