American baby and children’s apparel company Carter’s announced new sustainability commitments and initiatives, including plans to slash emissions and ramp the use of sustainably sourced materials by the end of the decade.

The new goals were introduced with the release of the company’s inaugural CSR report, which aligns the company’s sustainability initiatives according to the three strategic pillars of People, Product, and Planet.

The company’s sustainability goals include “People” targets to improve the well-being of at least 10 million families and 1 million workers by 2030 and increase diverse representation across its global value chain; “Product” goals to source 100% sustainable cotton and polyester by 2030 and to maintain high quality and safety standards, and; “Planet” goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 25% by 2030, develop a science-based target, increase the use of sustainable packaging, reduce landfill waste, and promote efficient water use in manufacturing.

Antonio Robinson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Carter’s, said:

“As the leading Company serving families with young children, we embrace the market evolution occurring as a result of the growing social responsibility expectations of our stakeholders, including consumers, employees, and investors.  Our annual reporting will offer insight into our goals and initiatives, and also serve as an important benchmark in gauging our progress.
