Nutrition, health, and sustainable living company Royal DSM announced today an acceleration of its 2030 climate targets, including a pledge to purchase 100% of its electricity worldwide from renewable sources.

The new 100% renewable electricity target is an update to its 75% goal set in 2019. DSM stated that it has reached 77% renewable electricity, eight years ahead of initially expected, including 100% across its Netherlands and North American operations.  

Last year, DSM announced a set of updated climate targets, ramping its goal to cut emissions by half by 2030, compared to its prior 30% target. With today’s announcement, the company is now targeting a 59% reduction, taking into account its progress to date. DSM said that it has submitted its plans for review by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

In its indirect value chain, DSM stated that it will move from a relative intensity target for its GHG emissions to an absolute reduction target. The exact goal is being finalized and will be proposed for validation with the SBTi in 2023.
