UBS announced the appointment of Beatriz Martin Jimenez as its new Group Executive Board (GEB) Lead for Sustainability and Impact, taking the role over from Suni Harford, following her decision to retire from the bank.

Martin Jimenez joined UBS in 2012, and has held a series of senior business and finance roles at the bank, including Investment Bank Chief of Staff and COO, Group Treasurer, and Group Head Transformation, and most recently serving as Head Non-Core and Legacy and President EMEA and UK Chief Executive, which she will continue in addition to her new role.

Harford joined the firm from Citi in 2017, and has been serving as President Asset Management since 2019, and as GEB Lead for Sustainability and Impact since 2021, responsible for driving the firm’s sustainability agenda and efforts to deliver on its Net Zero commitments.

UBS Group Chief Executive Officer Sergio P. Ermotti said:

“Beatriz Martin Jimenez’s many years of experience at UBS, as well as at other leading financial services firms, will be invaluable in her role as GEB lead for sustainability and impact. I’d also like to thank Suni Harford for her leadership and commitment to UBS and for the significant contribution she has made to our success. I wish her all the best for the future.”

According to UBS’ Group Sustainability and Impact governance and framework, the GEB Lead for Sustainability and Impact is responsible for setting the sustainability and impact strategy for the bank and developing group-wide sustainability and impact objectives, as well as for managing the Group Sustainability and Impact (GSI) organization, consisting of the Chief Sustainability and Social Impact Offices.

In a social media post announcing the appointment, Martin Jimenez said:

“Sustainability and impact are of growing importance to our clients and our firm plays a critical role helping them transition to a low-carbon economy and in providing philanthropy solutions to enable them to achieve impact at scale.

“I am excited to be carrying on Suni’s great work furthering these efforts and wish her all the best as she starts her next chapter.”
