Nomura Asset Management announced the appointment of Nick Henderson sustainable investing veteran Nick Henderson as its new Head of Head of Global Sustainable Equities, and as Lead Portfolio Manager of its Global Sustainable Equity Strategy.
Henderson joins Nomura with 17 years of experience working on Responsible Investment strategies, most recently serving as Director and Portfolio Manager at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, through the firm’s acquisition of the EMEA assets of BMO Global Asset Management. At Columbia Threadneedle and at BMO, Henderson launched, and served as Lead Manager of the Sustainable Opportunities Global Equity Strategy, and the Sustainable Global Equity Income Strategy.
Douglas Stewart, Managing Director, Head of EMEA Distribution, said:
“Nick brings deep experience in sustainable investing, with a proven ability to deliver strong risk-adjusted returns through varying market conditions. His appointment reflects our commitment to accelerating growth in sustainable investing and delivering exceptional outcomes for clients looking to invest through a sustainable lens.”
According to Nomura, the firm’s Global Sustainable Equity Strategy focuses on companies that the team believes can have the greatest total positive impact on society, with a strong bias towards investing in high quality businesses trading below intrinsic value, while avoiding companies that have a clear negative impact on the planet and society. The strategy’s stock selection process combines the team’s “Total Stakeholder Impact” framework, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) analysis.
Based in London, Henderson will report to Richard Kruse, Managing Director and Head of Global Equities for Nomura Asset Management U.K., and work alongside Co-Portfolio Manager Benjamin Lacaille and the team’s dedicated Sustainable Investment Specialist, Daniela Dorelova, who will also assume Co-Portfolio Manager responsibilities.
Henderson said:
“Whilst some firms appear to be dialing back their commitment to Sustainable Investing, my conversations across Nomura Asset Management point to a very different vision. The firm has a strong global foundation and clear ambitions for the Global Sustainable Equity Strategy, and I’m incredibly excited for what the future holds.”
