France’s central bank, Banque de France, announced the launch of the Climate Change Centre (CCC), designed to act as a hub for all actions undertaken by the various Directorates General of the Bank addressing the fight against climate change, and to coordinate those initiatives.
According to the central bank, the new hub is being launched in the context of its recently announced corporate strategic plan, Construire Ensemble 2024, which aims to strengthen the effectiveness of the Banque de France’s actions by utilizing dedicated expertise and developing synergies.
Banque de France stated that the CCC will also ensure that the Bank’s initiatives are consistent with the priorities of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS). The NGFS was established in 2017, with the purpose of helping to strengthen the global response required to meet the goals of the Paris agreement and to enhance the role of the financial system to manage risks and to mobilize capital for green and low-carbon investments in the broader context of environmentally sustainable development.
The CCC will be part of the Financial Stability Unit, and will take over the current resources of the Sustainable Finance Division. It will be chaired by Nathalie Aufauvre, Director General of the DGSO, and headed by Bertille Delaveau and her deputy Clément Bourgey.
