Logistics and shipping giant Deutsche Post DHL Group announced today that it is expanding its supply chain emission reduction service, GoGreen Plus, to road transport through its overland freight transport solutions division, DHL Freight.

DHL’s GoGreen service provides shippers with the option of climate-neutral shipping through investments in internationally recognized climate protection projects to offset emissions generated during transport. GoGreen Plus aims to provide real emissions reductions through carbon “insetting,” enabling shippers to replace conventional fossil fuels with sustainable fuels or clean technologies.

The new program forms part of DHL’s sustainability roadmap for 2030, launched last year, and contributes to the sub-target of having at least 30% of fuel requirements covered by sustainable fuels. As part of the roadmap, the company is also planning on investing €7 billion in opex and capex over the next ten years to reduce CO2 emissions, with a focus on alternative aviation fuels, among others.

The company has said that it aims to introduce further options and emissions-reduced products to enable customers to contribute to sustainability and reduce absolute CO2 emissions. The GoGreen Plus service has been launched for several of the company’s divisions including air freight, and less-than-container load (LCL) ocean freight.

DHL outlined some of its decarbonization-focused investments which include low- and zero emission technologies and fuels such as electric vehicles, biogas or hydrotreated vegetable oil, forming part of the freight division’s sustainable technologies roadmap, which encompasses investments in bridge technologies and more long-term solutions like hydrogen trucks.
