Leading agricultural technology and innovation Syngenta Group announced the appointment of Daniel Vennard as Chief Sustainability Officer. Vennard joins the company after serving as Global Director at World Resources Institute (WRI).
In his new role, Vennard will be responsible for developing and implementing Syngenta Group’s sustainability and net-zero goals, and will work with the business units to fully integrate sustainability into the company’s business strategy.
Syngenta Group was formed in June 2020, uniting four business units in a single entity, including Syngenta Crop Protection, based in Switzerland, Syngenta Seeds, based in the U.S., ADAMA, based in Israel, and Syngenta Group China. Shortly after forming, the company launched its sustainability strategy, the Good Growth Plan, with commitments to reduce agriculture’s carbon footprint and to help farmers deal with the extreme weather patterns caused by climate change, and a pledge to invest $2 billion in sustainable agriculture by 2025. Vennard and his team will build on the Good Growth Plan, according to the company.
Erik Fyrwald, CEO of Syngenta Group, said:
“Sustainability is at the heart of the Syngenta Group. We believe agricultural innovations can contribute to the most pressing challenges facing the planet, including climate change, soil health, loss of biodiversity and food security. Daniel’s creativity and remarkable expertise in sustainability will help us further advance regenerative farming practices and help mitigate the harmful effects of global warming. I’m looking forward to Daniel helping us achieve our ambitious goals.”
Vennard joined the WRI in 2014, where he launched initiatives including the Better Buying Lab, leading a team of behavioral scientists who develop, test and scale innovations that help consumers to choose sustainable food, and Cool Food, which helps businesses and organizations cut the climate impact of the food they serve. Prior to joining WRI, he held senior sustainability positions at consumer-focused companies including Mars and Procter & Gamble.
Vennard said:
“I am honored to join the Syngenta team and further build on their sustainability work. This is a pivotal moment in agriculture. By establishing more productive and climate- friendly agricultural products and services, we have an immense opportunity to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
