CRM solutions provider Salesforce announced several sustainability achievements, including the reaching net zero emissions across its full value chain, and 100% renewable energy for its operations. The company also released its climate action plan, outlining its key priorities to drive towards a 1.5°C future, and announced the launch of Sustainability Cloud 2.0, updating its platform enabling organizations to track and reduce carbon emissions.

Marc Benioff, CEO and Chair, Salesforce, said:

“Climate change is one of the most pressing crises we face as a planet, and each one of us has a responsibility to help. I’m proud that Salesforce is one of the few companies to have achieved Net Zero and 100% renewable energy, but we can’t stop until we embrace every solution and get every business on board.”

The new announcements are the latest in a series of sustainability-focused initiatives by Salesforce. Earlier this year, the company announced that it will introduce climate obligations in its supplier procurement contracts, and the company also released a new platform aiming to help companies to streamline how they track and measure supply chain carbon emissions. Salesforce also recently announced that it will actively advocate for clear and consistent science-based climate policies that facilitate a just and equitable global transition to a 1.5°C future as part of its public policy platform, and has called for mandatory climate reporting by companies.

Salesforce initially released Sustainability Cloud in 2019, aiming to provide businesses with a platform  offering a 360-degree view of their environmental impact with the ability to track, analyze and report reliable environmental data in order to reduce their carbon emissions.

With the Sustainability Cloud 2.0 release, Salesforce adds integration of Slack, enabling better collaboration with suppliers, following the completion by Salesforce of its $28 billion acquisition of business communications and collaboration platform Slack Technologies earlier this summer. The updated Sustainability Cloud platform also includes a carbon-offset ecosystem, and industry specific climate action plans.

According to Salesforce, its own net zero achievement was accomplished using Sustainability Cloud to identify the most impactful opportunities to lower its carbon footprint.

Suzanne DiBianca, Chief Impact Officer and EVP of Corporate Relations at Salesforce, said:

“Climate change impacts everyone and everything, and it disproportionately impacts the poorest and most vulnerable, amplifying global inequality. Sustainability Cloud supercharged our path to Net Zero, and we’re empowering customers with the transformational tools and trusted data they need to reduce their carbon emissions and take climate action.”
