India-based telecommunications and digital ecosystem provider Tata Communications announced a series of new climate goals and initiatives, including targets to become carbon neutral by 2030, and achieve net zero emissions across its value chain, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, by 2035.

In addition to its new 2035 net zero commitment, the company also announced its “3C Sustainability” strategy, covering Climate Action in its global operations, as well as its efforts targeting Customer GHG Savings and Circular Economies in India.

For its own operations, initiatives under the new strategy include enhancing energy efficiency and deploying renewable energy measures globally. Customer-focused initiatives include developing and delivering green or low carbon solutions to help customers be environmentally friendly and increase competitiveness, with the company noting that the potential of its customer GHG emissions reduction potential is 20x that of its own Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2027. Tata’s circular economy-focused actions include deploying IoT solutions such as smart metering to track real-time water usage and leakages at key facilities, implementing rainwater harvesting and increasing water and waste recycling in key India campuses, and committing to zero waste to landfill by 2027 in India.

Tata Communications CEO A.S. Lakshminarayanan said:

“Sustainability is at the core of our business strategy and we are committed to creating a more sustainable future for our ecosystem. Our Net Zero goal reflects our responsibility to innovate, integrate and empower with inclusive and sustainable solutions. We believe technology is a key enabler of global growth, at the same time, catalysing societal evolution and climate action.”
